Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri) is one of the most popular herbs I sell. It is well-known in Ayurveda where it is used as a sattvic herb—an herb that promotes spiritual growth. We don’t really have that concept in the modern western world, but you could think of it as an herb that is thought to soothe inflamed emotions, body, or mind. It is famous, traditionally, for helping to calm the mind as a support for meditation practices. Some say it was used by ancient Hindu scholars to help them memorize extensive hymns and scripture. Herbalists consider it to be an adaptogen which means it could help the body adapt to new or stressful situations. Recent studies suggest it might have anti-inflammatory effects but more research is needed. It is cooling energetically. People often combine it with Holy Basil (tulsi).
