Someone in a Bach Flower group I participate in asked if flower essences could be used to clear negative energy from a space. One of the members described going to someone’s house and feeling shocked at the level of energetic negativity stuck there. This is an unusual topic for that group but there were a few people who talked about the flower essences appearing to work on an energetic level so perhaps they could be used this way. They proposed a few Bach remedies that they thought people could experiment with—Crab Apple and Walnut are two I remember (for cleansing energy and breaking old patterns)—but very few people in the group use anything but the original 38 remedies created by Edward Bach. Certainly cleansing the energy in a room was not something he envisioned.
But it IS something I envisioned because my partner Paul and I developed a regular routine of cleansing the energy after healing sessions when we did spiritual counseling and healing work in our home and also because there are a few flower essences outside of the Bach remedies that seem appropriate.
Clearing energy in a space or from your aura is a concept known in many indigenous cultures. In North America some Native American tribes use smudging ceremonies with the smoke of burning white sage and/or sweetgrass and cedar to cleanse themselves and to connect with Spirit. I’ve read accounts of similar techniques being used for healing in many ancient cultures around the world. Middle Eastern and Asian cultures often use incense for spiritual purposes and healing as well. Sandalwood, Frankincense, and Myrrh are the famous ones we’re pretty familiar with today.
I know that when it comes to clearing energy, that intention is what you need most, and combining that with ritual makes your intention more concrete. So New Age people will talk about taking a shower and using intention to imagine the water washing away the negative energy a person has picked up as well as cleansing their physical bodies. Neo-pagans sometimes use crystals or salt in the corners of a room or even pick up a broom to clear the space. There are SO many approaches! There’s no reason that flower essences couldn’t be used as well.
I asked for spiritual guidance when I created a scented Clearing Negativity flower essence spray for myself. The result was:
Essential Oils: Sandalwood, Frankincense, and Myrrh
For releasing and clearing negative influences and thoughts, and encouraging a sense of peace, groundedness and spiritual focus.
Flower Essences: Lotus, Sage, and Angelica
For a broader perspective and spiritual focus combined with compassion, to help release negative influences and states of mind, for feeling more in touch with spirit and spiritual guidance, and to encourage a feeling of inner peace.
Of course, many of my customers want to use flower essences alone so I offer the same flower essence combination, unscented except for the scent of the vodka used to preserve it.
You can use it in your home or office, in your car, or around your body in your aura. When I use it, over time I notice myself being less susceptible to being caught up and overly focussed on the negative news of the day. I have a more balanced and spiritual perspective as I put aside doomscrolling and put my attention on positive things I know I can make a difference about. I find myself acting from a healthier perspective instead of one driven by worry, outrage, and fear.

Flower essences are used to assist with mind-body-spirit interactions and individual results may vary. They are extremely dilute which makes them quite safe. But because so little physical substance can be detected in a flower essence solution, these products are presumed to work on an energetic or vibrational level—something that cannot be adequately tested by western scientific methods. Claims made by me, therefore, are based on personal experiences and the evidence of the combined multiple decades of case notes by Dr. Edward Bach as well as Healing Herbs and Flower Essence Services (the companies who make the ingredients I use in my products). This is not, however, accepted medical evidence or substantiated scientific evidence from a modern allopathic point of view. I am not a medical doctor or licensed healthcare practitioner.
