“Happiness runs in a circular motion” is a line from an old Donovan song that comes to mind as I write this, particularly because I remember an old Tai Chi teacher of mine saying pretty much the same thing. Tai Chi movements are usually circular and are never forced. The idea, as my teacher described it, is to relax and allow, to move with the natural flow of energy, and grow in strength and flexibility naturally. She would say “happiness,” too.
A lot of people fall into thinking that happiness and enjoyment of life is less important in stressful times. After all, the priority needs to be on what needs to get done, right? But over time, this takes a real toll. In reality, the stress and anxiety of always being “under the gun” (in your mind, not reality) breeds more anxiety. Doing your best and then resting and rewarding yourself with something you love experiencing is what renews your mind, body, and spirit.
I personally believe in making simple changes if your life has become an endless stream of things you NEED to do with no respite in sight. I recently made of list of things I love to do and then made note of how often I do those things. It was a little depressing. So I made the decision to make sure I finish my work early in the evening, shut off the news, and reserve the rest of the evening for things I enjoy. I picked up a knitting project I haven’t made time for in months. I’m reading a book FOR FUN. I’m stopping doing anything at least an hour before bed and just enjoy cuddling with my partner Paul and our two cats. And I’m watching my happiness and feeling of resilience grow.
Am I using any flower essences to support myself in making happiness a priority? Sure!
Comfort and Joy is a current favorite. I wrote about it on this blog a few days ago. The combination of Larch (for expecting better outcomes and more confidence), Zinnia (for being more playful and regaining your sense of humor), and Rock Water (for lightening up and relaxing overly intense standards of behavior really works for me! It relaxes the tension I carry and makes it easier to let go and enjoy being in the moment even during the day on my job. (Or maybe especially then.)
Apple Blossom is also one I’m making sure to use. It is for helping yourself release toxins from the past and having a more hopeful optimistic view of the future. And that has been surprisingly true for me this week, so I am happy for that.
Daffodil also is used for joy, optimism and hope. You could use that one with Apple Blossom or perhaps in a formula I call Joyous Heart. That combines Daffodil with Cassiope (for grateful appreciation of life) and Lemon (for dispelling negative thought patterns).
Many other flower essences can be used. Choose based on what your most common emotions are these days. And have FUN choosing!

Flower essences are used to assist with mind-body-spirit interactions and individual results may vary. They are extremely dilute which makes them quite safe. But because so little physical substance can be detected in a flower essence solution, these products are presumed to work on an energetic or vibrational level—something that cannot be adequately tested by western scientific methods. Claims made by me, therefore, are based on personal experiences and the evidence of the combined multiple decades of case notes by Dr. Edward Bach as well as Healing Herbs and Flower Essence Services (the companies who make the ingredients I use in my products). This is not, however, accepted medical evidence or substantiated scientific evidence from a modern allopathic point of view. I am not a medical doctor or licensed healthcare practitioner.
