Sometimes you have to cry. Sometimes you have to shiver and shake. Sometimes you have to stomp around and shout. I’m usually sharing flower essences for relief of emotional distress on this blog, but today I want to talk about something else. Flower essences are not about not having feelings! I admit that it often enough seems that way when an essence suddenly pops you out of a bad mood and helps you feel good again. But that is almost always a mindset shift. There are times when something has happened and you need to grieve or feel whatever is appropriate in your situation, and you can’t get through grief (for example) without shedding a few tears.
Unfortunately, many people have been trained or traumatized out of feeling and expressing their feelings. Agrimony, is often used as a first remedy for that very reason. It helps those of us who were taught to keep a smile on our faces and try to only think happy thoughts to actually understand why we feel so bad when we finally let our guards down. Cultivating a positive attitude is an essential life skill but believing you must never have a single emotionally valid feeling other than happiness is harmful. Feeling and releasing your feelings is built-in from infancy. Not being able to access and release your feelings comes from abuse (intentional or otherwise—it might just be a family or cultural pattern). If it wasn’t safe to express emotion, you learned to repress or sublimate your feelings to something socially or situationally acceptable so you wouldn’t get threatened with “I’ll give you something to cry about!” or ridiculed, passed over for a raise, or shunned. Again, maybe that’s a temporarily useful life skill to learn, but over time stuffed feelings can cause a lot of problems (physically and mentally). Agrimony can help you take an honest look at what’s going on under the surface and feel capable of dealing with it.
Other flower essences could be added in:
Yerba Santa, as an herb, is an ancient Native American remedy for healing the lungs. Interestingly, in Chinese Medicine the Lung Meridian is thought to store old grief. The flower essence can help a person release that grief.
Scarlet Monkeyflower can help if you have a hard time expressing anger.
Golden Ear Drops can help you access and release the feelings attached to traumatic past memories that have been suppressed. It can help you gain insight from what happened and separate your identity from toxic past influences so you have more freedom in how you respond to similar experiences in the present. (Especially helpful in the context of therapy or other means of support.)

Flower essences are used to assist with mind-body-spirit interactions and individual results may vary. They are extremely dilute which makes them quite safe. But because so little physical substance can be detected in a flower essence solution, these products are presumed to work on an energetic or vibrational level—something that cannot be adequately tested by western scientific methods. Claims made by me, therefore, are based on personal experiences and the evidence of the combined multiple decades of case notes by Dr. Edward Bach as well as Healing Herbs and Flower Essence Services (the companies who make the ingredients I use in my products). This is not, however, accepted medical evidence or substantiated scientific evidence from a modern allopathic point of view. I am not a medical doctor or licensed healthcare practitioner.
